Singapore Vet Show 2022

Posted on 3 Nov 2022

The Singapore Vet Show 2022 was Sirius Pet Biologics maiden professional exhibition where we showcased FURMENT Veterinary Range functional postbiotics to delegation of veterinarians from Singapore, the Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, Myanmar, Australia, and South Korea.

Gut Microbiome and Skin Microbiome Disorders

More than 50% of all veterinary visits are related to gut microbiome and skin microbiome issues.

As such it was timely that we showcased all six of FURMENT Veterinary Range functional postbiotics that have helped improve clinical outcome in the veterinarian settings in the region.  Afterall, microbiome problems require microbiome solutions.

Diarrhoea, Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD), dermatitis were high in the agenda lists among the vet delegates seeking advanced breakthroughs that offer high efficacy standard and at the same time sustainable.

Introducing Postbiotics

The International Scientific Association for Probiotics and Prebiotics (ISAPP) defines postbiotics as “preparation of inanimate microorganisms and/or their components that confers a health benefit on the host”. Effective postbiotics must contain inactivated microbial cells or cell components, with or without metabolites, that contribute to observed health benefits.

At Sirius Pet Biologics, we leverage on Miiiome Postbiotics – the metabolic by-products or bioactive compounds such as SCFA (Short Chain Fatty Acids: acetate, butyrate, propionate), organic acids, bacteriocins, peptides, exopolysaccharides, vitamins, inactivated microbial cells, produced by Lactobacilli during fermentation.

As the definition suggests postbiotics do not contain live bacteria, yet similarly to probiotics they are able to render health benefits on the host. Postbiotics affect microbiome composition, inhibit pathogens, benefit the host via physical interaction with the host epithelial and activation of the immune systems. More information on postbiotics mechanism of actions can be found here.

Postbiotics being inanimate microorganisms have clear advantages over probiotics in commercial offerings such as the convenience of ambient vs cold-chain logistics and storage, and longer shelf life compared to probiotics peers.

Curbing Overuse of Antibiotics Amid the Antimicrobial Resistance Threats

One of the key takeaways during the  Singapore Vet Show 2022 Conference is the call to curb overuse of antibiotics in the veterinary settings amid the Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) threats.

Interestingly, the call to reduce overuse of antibiotics lacks in concrete industry solutions to counter it.

This is where FURMENT contributes, and has become the most viable solutions for our veterinary partners in the region.

CorVet Plus Gel – our diarrhoeal remedy has become the first line of defence against gastroenteritis infections at veterinary settings.

MegaCor – is our postbiotics solutions to restore gut microbiome and speed up recovery, and meant to be administered together with every antibiotic prescribed.

We are encouraged by the enthusiastic response of veterinary delegates from the region, and hope to offer more to veterinary care at the exhibition next year.
